Knowledge of legal issues affecting business is increasingly important in today’s environment. Law is probably the most important external factor affecting business operations. Ever-larger numbers of business decisions are influenced by government rules, regulations, and policies. The Certified Legal Auditor (CLA) Training program is a customized training program conducted by IIAM, which enables the auditor to be a professional who understands the standards and principles of auditing and the auditing techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating and reporting to determine a quality system’s adequacy and deficiencies. It gives auditors in depth training on legal audit principles, iCLA audit procedure and techniques, to prioritize and focus on matters of significance, to familiarize with iCLA Legal audit software, current legal issues and trends affecting business, organizations, contracts and property, dispute prevention and management options and ADR techniques.

The Auditors have to be basically law graduates, chartered accountants or company secretaries qualified from recognized institutions. The training is designed to have a clear view of the legal environment of business, enhance their abilities to think and communicate effectively, conduct interviews, make presentations effectively and develop effective strategies for managing legal risks. It will also provide basic instruction in legal research and critical reasoning skills.

The standards for training and certification may be amended from time to time at the discretion of IIAM, with approval from PCCB. It is the responsibility of IIAM to ensure that iCLA legal and business compliance audits are conducted in accordance with the latest revised standards.

Professionals who successfully complete the CLA training program will be certified by IIAM and empanelled for iCLA audit. The names of CLA’s empanelled with IIAM shall be placed on the website. The certification as “CLA” provides the legal auditor to demonstrate that they are part of iCLA audit process and they are professionals certified for their skills. The certification process will assist in setting an industry standard for legal audit. The certification provides assurance that a certified legal auditor meets a minimum level of ability and possesses the skills necessary to do the job. The standards for certification are developed using the highest benchmarks. To maintain the quality of Auditor certification, IIAM requires that legal auditors recertify every three years. The purpose of recertifying is to ensure that, as a CLA, the auditor maintain the same level of knowledge originally demonstrated. CPD is intended to maintain, develop and improve the knowledge and skills and understand the latest standards and procedures of iCLA audit. This can be achieved by attending training programs, workshops, seminars, conferences or other relevant programs notified in this aspect.

Community Mediator Orientation Program
(Code – ITP09)

IIAM Community Mediation Service (IIAM CMS) provides an important service to the community. The program is intended to contribute to the happiness and harmony of the community. With the right support this can expand sufficiently to meet pressing community needs for conflict prevention and conflict resolution.

The Mediation Clinics established under the IIAM CMS would function with an efficient team of mediators who are selected from the local community itself. People from a wide variety of backgrounds can make good mediators. The mediators so selected will be persons who shall be having a good repute in the local area to whom people shall have faith and shall include educated youth, ladies and elders. The people so selected would be trained by IIAM, and a certificate of recognition would be issued. The selected community mediators will be empanelled with the clinic.

Mediators can offer service as volunteers, free of charge for initial meetings and charge a sliding fee for subsequent meetings, if parties take the matter ahead. Mediators will be paid for commercial disputes. Retired Judges, retired officers, advocates, social and religious workers etc. can also volunteer to participate as mediators as part of social work and utilize the clinic for mediation.

Mediation has become one of the premier methods of resolving disputes. Mediation is not only about conflict and resolution, it is also a way to begin a difficult conversation. With the skill of an excellent mediator and the willingness of each of us to communicate, we have resolved conflicts and that resolution is as strong today as it was years ago. But it takes courage and patience to take up the responsibility of becoming a mediator. Apart from the acceptance and honour given by the community, it also gives absolute satisfaction of becoming peace builders in our community.

Who qualifies to become a community Mediator? They have to have the fear of God, and a concern for humanity, and be guided by love and stand for peace. They are respected and command an audience. They have the experience in doing service. They are, above all, trusted.

Ever thought about entering the field of Mediation? Are you really good with people and a very good listener? If so, we are looking for people who are interested in becoming community mediators for our clinics. IIAM offers free orientation for mediators. The Training programs at IIAM offer you the opportunity to learn what is necessary to become a mediator yourself. Experienced and highly knowledgeable trainers introduce you to the theory and concepts that form the basis of mediation practice. The course provides participants with the opportunity to practice this structured dispute resolution process through a series of interactive presentations, role play simulations, real life case studies and discussion groups. A certificate will be issued upon completion of the training program.

As per IIAM Mediator Accreditation System, a candidate having successfully undergone IIAM Community Mediator Orientation Program is categorised as Grade D Mediator. For details on IIAM Accreditation system and QAP.
